During this pandemic, time has a way of getting away from me. We are enjoying the slower pace, but the weeks seem to slip by. I can hardly believe Father’s Day is so soon!
I thought it would be useful to put together a resource of simple ideas to celebrate all the dads in our lives. Simple is key right now, and I am sure all the dads and grandpas in our lives will appreciate the sweet messages from our kids!
Fabulous Mask– Even if the recipient gets to stay cooped up in his at home work space, he still has some occasions to use a mask. Instead of a traditional tie, give him a homemade mask! Here is my little son wearing his to match daddy. I used one of dad’s old dress up shirts to ensure he will like the color.
Decorate a Mask- I am having a lot of fun crudely getting to know my sewing machine. Here is the CDC website’s instructions for how to make your own mask. We are using white fabric for the kids to decorate. Don’t want to sew? I hear you! This link will take you to a large package of white, ready to color masks. They may end up just a little too fabulous, and will be a keepsake for this time:)
Chalk Messages- Surprise dad with a welcoming message coming into the house. You could also use foam bath letters to leave a surprise “we love you” in the shower.
DIY Picture frames– It’s summer time, which also means Popsicle season! Or if you want a less sticky option, go for the easy craft sticks. Kids can write their own message, poem, or draw a family portrait for dad. Our oldest daughter’s family portrait from a few years ago is still my husband’s favorite piece of art we have.
Buy and Paint Crafts– My kids gave their dad a beautifully painted birdhouse a few years ago. We had it hanging on our patio for a couple of years with no sign of life. This spring we had a wonderful surprise when a little family moved in. It was so sweet hearing high pitched squeals as the diligent parents worked to bring little worms and food to their demanding children. We had a great, unexpected bird watching experience right at the beginning of the stay at home order. I’m so glad we gave dad that bird house years ago!
Dad’s the Best Books– Books like My Daddy and I, I Love Dad with The Very Hungry Caterpillar, or Hop on Pop-Up pay sweet homage to the dads in our lives. Add painted hand prints to personalize it ๐
Make a Card- So simple, but it definitely one of the most appreciated gifts you can give dad. Tell him why you love him and a favorite memory, whip out those crayons, and he will have a great keepsake.
Have a Happy Father’s Day!
